Spotlight on Smith Originals

Hi Guys - i would love to introduce you to a fantastic new (ish ) company that specializes in bespoke wood and steel furniture - I am a big fan of a good craftsmanship as well as i love a good design , Living in a small home can often be a challenge when it comes to buying furniture - and if you know me by know you will know that i have A LOT  of things - i cannot help myself - id like to be a minimalist but sadly this is not happening x
I am very lucky to have one of Steward creations - a tree stump stool / side table / bedside table  that have took a pride place in my daughter room - we use it as extra seating but the genius of this design is that this stool is multi functional therefore ideal for any space big or small
Smith Originals for me is one of those stores who take a great pride in their work as well as attention to details , they always update their etsy store so have a look at their latest design here , they also offer bespoke pieces - to fit your space or specifications, Also each piece is hand made therefore its design will be one of a kind unique .
I personally loved dealing with the company from start to finish -it was natural that i wanted to introduce Steward craftsmanship to you
So sit back and relax and i hand over the blog to Stew x

Can you tell our readers about yourself and your brand?

I am Stewart Smith, 44, and I recently established Smith Originals, a small, bespoke furniture making business specializing in live edge tables. I am based in County Durham. My background is an engineer, most recently a sub sea engineer

What piece are you most proud of, or one that has significance to you?

The first live edge dining table I ever made. I am self-taught so it was a real challenge but I was so pleased with the final result and it had a real wow factor

Can you tell me some of your strengths that really helped you in your design journey?

My background is as a mechanical design engineer and this training and experience really benefits me when I design and make pieces

What would be your tips for anyone thinking of starting their own business in design?

I’m still new to all this so I think I am the one who needs the tips!

Can you tell me about your greatest high in your career?

It’s still to come

What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from that?

I only set up the business a year or so ago so I am learning constantly

What do you think has been your brand’s super power?

The personal touch – I am involved in the creative process from start to finish, right from selecting which log to mill to giving the piece its final coat of oil

Were you artistic as a child?

No, I was more into sports; however my dad was a woodworker so I think it must be in the genes

Since Style Squeeze is all about small spaces - how would you squeeze most of small square footage (your tips suggestions)

The smaller the piece of furniture the bolder it should be to create maximum impact

What do you do in your spare time?

Shooting and fishing – caveman pastimes!

Do you put limitations on the work in terms of brave and bold or is there no fucks given?
No limits – I like a challenge
